Erin Barma, APRN, PMHNP-BC
Psychiatric Nurse Practioner
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
What I do
My role is assessment, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric conditions utilizing medication management. While my focus and expertise is in psychopharmacology, I approach treatment by drawing from numerous disciplines and therapeutic traditions that complement my role.
I have experience and interest in working with students who identify as women and LGBTQ+. I am also interested in how students develop their professional identities, in examining the dynamics of patient-provider interactions, and in working with first generation students.
In the past, I have been trained to work with substance users, perinatal populations, and with gender-expansive populations.
Professional Biography
I have worked in mental health in various roles and settings, both inpatient and outpatient, in high acuity contexts as well as in primary care and prevention. These include: psychiatric emergency services, inpatient nursing, integrated behavioral health in primary care settings, and in private practice.
As a nurse who specializes in psychiatry, I am able to function in both the medical and counseling space and enjoy bridging gaps between these respective cultures. I have particular interest in anxiety disorders, the OCD spectrum, somatic disorders, and medical trauma.
In private practice, I focus on mental health treatment of healthcare providers and caregivers. This work has led to exploration of the health humanities, ethics, moral distress and burnout.
