Student Health Fee (HCF)
Similar to a technology fee or student activity fee, the Student Health Fee (previously the "Health & Counseling Fee, HCF") is assessed to most DU students, but is not a charge for individual services or coverage.
Rather, the Fee supports prevention education, wellness and crisis support services available to all students, such as 24/7 medical and mental health consultations, Health Promotion education events and supplies, and no-cost services as needed from CAPE (the Center for Advocacy, Prevention, & Empowerment).
The Fee is charged each enrolled term to your central Student Billing account, allowing you to use financial aid to cover it, and/or include in DU payment plans.
Opt-in situations. If you are a
1) College of Professional Studies student enrolled in in-person, degree-seeking programs, OR
2) a degree-seeking student carrying 7 or fewer quarter/semester hours/credits, and/or on Continuous Enrollment (CE) status,
then the Health Fee will not be assessed automatically. These students may be able to opt-IN each term using the How to Enroll process below.
Students on DU Study Abroad/Away programs will be billed the HCF each term until the study abroad override is applied (when student confirmed not to be attending on DU campus), at which point the charge will be reversed/credited. Students should pay other charges in meanwhile.
Ineligible. Students in entirely/largely online programs and/or non-degree programs (eg certificate, enrichment, microcredential), and benefitted DU employees taking classes, are NOT assessed the Health Fee as they are not eligible for HCC clinical services (or SHIP).
2026-27 Student Health Fee
Beginning in the 2026-27 school year, all HCC-eligible new and continuing undergraduate and graduate/professional/ Law students will be assessed the same single, simple Student Health Fee. It cannot be waived or reduced to cover only certain services, regardless of level or date of enrollment.
- Quarter Students: $258 per Quarter
- Semester (Law) Students: $387 per Semester (Summer semester Fee is $258 due to shorter length.)
