HCC - Payment
The regular Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) premium and Health & Counseling Fee (HCF) charges appear on all students' central DU account, as they are not related to specific instances of individual care. While the HCC can answer questions about these costs, DU Student Billing handles payment details, including any late fees, using financial aid to cover them, and/or payment plans. Visit www.du.edu/student-billing
Charges for HCC-specific services (appointment co-pays, lab fees, dispensed medication/supplies) are handled by the HCC directly, because details of this care are protected by additional privacy rules.
This separation means that HCC service charges cannot be added to your DU Student Billing account, nor can credit balances on your DU Student Billing account be used directly to cover HCC service changes. If you have positive balance (credit) on your central DU account, you can request a refund from Student Billing, and then use those funds to pay your HCC charges.

Dispute a charge
You can begin a review of charges online, by visiting your DU MyHealth account, select Messages, select New Message, then "I have concerns about charges on my account," and then "I want to Dispute a Charge."
Complete the form, including the date when the charge or service occurred, the amount of the disputed charge, and the reason for the dispute. A separate form is needed for each charge being disputed.
It may take up to 2 weeks for a decision to be made. During this time, you will continue to receive outstanding balance messages until the balance is paid or otherwise resolved.
-
Request a (need-based) fee adjustment
On occasion, the HCC may be able to adjust (reduce) HCC-charged fees based on student financial need.
To request an adjustment, you will need to submit a request including:
- A brief statement indicating the specific reason for your request (your financial situation), what general services would be covered by the fee adjustment (such as Counseling session copays, Medical visit copays or Psychiatric visit copays), and what amount would be affordable to you for the service (what you'd like your copay lowered to).
- Proof of current income, such as a copy of your most recent FAFSA student aid report. We will also accept a copy your most recent W-2 (wages/salary) form.
You can submit your request through your DU MyHealth account (select Messages, New Message, then last option "I have a concern about charges on my account") or email needed info above to hccinfo@du.edu, being sure to include your DU ID with all submitted documentation.
More generally, the University also offers several student financial support options, outlined at https://studentaffairs.du.edu/du-help/financial-wellness
