Research shown by RAINN state that trans and gender diverse folks are at higher risk for sexual violence.
Research from National Coalition Against Domestic Violence shows that LGBTQIA2S+ folks experience higher rates of similar rates of sexual violence, stalking, and relationship violence with bisexual women facing the highest rate at 61.1%.
Challenges to Reporting and Seeking Support
LGBTQIA2S+ survivors face many additional challenges to reporting interpersonal violence or seeking support, including:
- Fear of being outed
- Fear of outing their offender
- Not seeing law enforcement, courts, services providers, etc. as reflective or supportive of their community
- Body image and discomfort
- Fear of discrimination or mistreatment
- Potential in-group consequences
