Summer at the HCC

This page briefly summarizes student insurance, HCF discounts, and HCC service eligibility for the transitional season of summer.

Students graduating or otherwise not returning to DU for fall should review our Leaving DU webpage.

Insurance Coverage

Spring SHIP (student insurance) coverage extends through 7/31 for Law/semester students, and through 8/31 for quarter students, regardless of course enrollment. (Fall coverage begins the following day for respective semester/quarter terms.)

SHIP-covered students not in Denver or not eligible for HCC services (see below) can search for in-network providers at www.anthem.com/find-care

Students seeking to join SHIP for summer (enrolling “off term”) should contact the HCC for details.

Students needing insurance after DU should visit our Leaving DU page.

Health & Counseling Fee (HCF)

Summer HCF is only billed if students enroll for summer classes. To receive HCF discounts on HCC services, continuing students not taking summer classes should contact the HCC to pay the summer HCF directly.

Receiving clinical services from the HCC

Graduated students are eligible to receive medical and counseling services at the HCC for 30 days after their graduation date, to allow for transition of care to non-DU providers. For additional information, visit our Leaving DU page.

Students registered for summer (in-person courses, as part of degree-seeking program) are eligible to use clinical services at the HCC between spring and fall terms.

Continuing students already registered for fall classes are eligible for HCC medical and counseling services through summer, even if not enrolled in summer classes.

Continuing students not yet registered for fall classes, and not enrolled for summer, are eligible to receive medical and counseling services at the HCC for 30 days after spring term. (You must be registered for fall classes to be eligible through the full summer.)

Incoming (new) students are not eligible to use HCC clinical services until their fall orientation week, even if already registered for fall classes.

In all cases, out-of-pocket costs will vary based on student’s insurance coverage and HCF status.

Summer Operating Hours

Due to significantly decreased usage, HCC business and clinical hours are more limited in summer (spring quarter finals through fall quarter orientation week). There are no extended/evening appointments; and there may be occasional variations in opening/closing times. We are also closed for all University holidays.

Online self-scheduling options will reflect these changes; and our web homepage will highlight major changes.

As always, eligible students can consult with our on-call providers about urgent medical and mental health by calling 303.871.2205 and following after hours prompts. (For emergencies, call 9-1-1.)
