Patient Rights

We're committed to upholding the rights of all our patients with a courteous, professional, inclusive approach that allows each patient to participate fully in decisions concerning their care.

  • What You Can Expect from Us
    • Dignity – You will be treated in a professional, courteous, and caring manner without prejudice.

    • Treatment – You will have access to high quality, medically advisable treatment, appropriate specialist referrals, and second opinions.

    • Participation – You will have the right to participate in decisions concerning your health care. This includes the right to accurate information regarding all aspects of care: costs, risks, benefits, and limitations of both diagnostic and treatment modalities. You also have the right to refuse any recommended tests or treatments.

    • Confidentiality – You have the right to confidentiality in all communications with Health & Counseling Center staff. Your medical and mental health records at the HCC are completely confidential and will not be shared with anyone — parents, school administrators, professors, employers, insurance companies, etc. — without your approval to the fullest extent of the law. You also have the right to review or receive a copy of your medical and mental health records, and to have a copy sent to another person or entity. (There is a fee for copying records). The Health & Counseling Center complies with all federal and state regulations concerning the confidentiality and release of medical and mental health records.

    • Prompt Attention – You will receive prompt attention according to the nature of your specific need. We will do our best to accommodate your schedule, although some patients' medical and mental health needs may take precedence.

    • Patient Billing – You will receive copies of an itemized bill for services rendered at the Health & Counseling Center, and, upon your request, an explanation of any charges. You may submit one of these copies to your health insurance company. Whenever needed, we will assist you with your insurance claims.
  • What We Ask of You
    • Accurate Information – To arrive at the proper diagnosis and treatment, we need accurate information from you about your present condition and previous health history.

    • Follow-through – Every patient has the responsibility to either carry out treatment and education recommendations (including setting and keeping re-check appointments) or accept responsibility for the outcome.

    • Set and Keep Appointments – Please call in advance to schedule an appointment, even if you need to be seen that same day. Every patient has the responsibility to arrive as scheduled for appointments and to notify the Health & Counseling Center in advance of the need to cancel. If you arrive late to your appointment, it may have to be rescheduled.

    • Ask for Advice – By calling 303-871-2205 and asking to speak with a nurse, you can get reliable advice on self-care from a registered nurse prior to your appointment. In some cases, this may enable you to avoid the need for an appointment altogether.

    • Awareness of Our Payment Policy – As you check out at the Front Desk after each Health & Counseling Center visit, you may receive an itemized bill based on your coverage for all services rendered. The balance of the bill not covered by the Health & Counseling Fee or the Student Health Insurance Plan is payable at the time of the visit. We accept cash, check, Visa, MasterCard, and Discover. Medications purchased at the Health & Counseling Center must be paid for at the time of purchase using one of the above payment methods. At this time, prescription insurance plans will not reimburse for medications purchased at the Health & Counseling Center.
