James O'Geary
Behavioral Health Consultant/ Staff Counselor
Pronouns: He/Him/His
What I do
I have a special interest in working with students who are experiencing concerns related to anxiety, eating/body-image, collegiate transition, depression, grief, substance use, and trauma. My clinical style primarily utilizes person-centered techniques; however, I also draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Gestalt Therapy. I am committed to examining how Institutions of Higher Education perpetuate systems of oppression, marginalization, and inequity; and I actively attempt to utilize antiracist and trauma informed interventions in my daily practice.
Personal Interests: I am a big time college football fan and I greatly enjoy going to concerts, camping, and rewatching the Lord of the Rings Trilogy for the umpteenth time.
Professional Biography
I received a master's degree in clinical counseling from East Carolina University, with an emphasis in the treatment of addictions. Prior to joining the clinical team at DU, I completed a post master's fellowship at Colorado State University, and a clinical internship experience at the East Carolina Center for Counseling and Student Development.
