- Oversee all HCC technology systems, including EMR, clinical workflows, counseling systems, public health tools, and administrative platforms.
- Lead strategic planning for digital infrastructure, data systems, reporting, and secure information governance.
- Support clinicians, counselors, and staff by improving workflows, reliability, access, and user experience.
- Manage cybersecurity, HIPAA compliance, and ITIL-based service management for the HCC.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives.
- Guide EMR enhancements, data interoperability, and technology integration across university systems.
- Ensure students have dependable digital experiences for appointments, records, telehealth, and wellness services.
- Partner with DU leadership to strengthen technology operations that support student care, safety, and wellness.
Professional Biography
Bernhard “Bernie” is the Director of Informatics & Technology for the University of Denver Health & Counseling Center (HCC). He brings more than 20 years of leadership in global information technology, healthcare IT operations, digital transformation, and cybersecurity to DU’s integrated care environment. His work focuses on building high-performance technology ecosystems that enhance clinical care, improve student experience, and support the operational health of the HCC.
Prior to joining DU, Bernhard held senior technology leadership roles across large-scale healthcare and enterprise environments, including IBM, PacifiCare, TriZetto and Cognizant Technology Solutions. He has led teams delivering technology strategies in global IT service and support, clinical systems, EMR infrastructure and compliance-driven operations.
Bernhard’s background includes directing ITIL implementations at healthcare facilities, overseeing multi-data center infrastructure, leading cloud transformation initiatives, and deploying automation and AI-driven reliability engineering solutions. His leadership style emphasizes compassion, operational excellence, and human-centered digital design.
