Preparing for Winter Quarter

This page briefly summarizes key health + wellness information and action items for students as Fall term ends and the Winter Quarter begins.

Students graduating or otherwise not returning to DU for winter quarter should review our Leaving DU webpage, as your HCC care and Student Heath Insurance (SHIP) are dependent on enrollment.

  • CONTINUING quarter students

    Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) coverage (or approved waiver) continues from fall; no action is needed. 

    Undergraduate students who started in September 2026 and did not complete the USG-required Intervene: DU active bystander skills workshop, should email hwp@du.edu for options to complete the requirement and lift the registration hold from your account.

  • NEW quarter students

    Submit your required immunization records.

    Interested in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)? Call 303.871.2205 or email insurance@du.edu before January 22, 2027, to ask about manual enrollment possibilities. (Next required action is spring for all quarter students.)

    Are eligible to use our clinics as of January 4th.

    Undergraduate students starting at DU in January 2027 must attend the USG-required Intervene: DU active bystander skills workshop during Winter Discoveries Orientation.

  • HealthCARE over winter break

    New students (starting studies in January) cannot use our clinics until January 4th.

    For current/continuing students:

    • HCC clinics will continue regular weekday hours through much of winter break; but will be closed for 

      • DU's Thanksgiving holiday (Wednesday-Friday, November 225-27th); 

      • a staff retreat (Tuesday, December 1st); and 

      • the annual DU Winter Closure (Wednesday, December 23rd, 2026, through Friday, January 1st, 2027). Clinics will re-open on Monday, January 4th.

    • Whenever we're closed, on-call clinical providers can be reached for urgent matters by calling 303.871.2205, and following "after hours" prompts.

    • While HCC telehealth may be available for some situations, SHIP-covered students not in Denver during winter break can find local SHIP in-network providers via www.anthem.com/find-care

  • Student Health FEE (HCF)

    The full HCF is automatically billed each term to most students registered for classes, to support campuswide health, well-being and crisis support programs. It cannot be waived or reduced, in whole or part.

  • SHIP 1095-B forms for 2026 federal TAXES

    IRS 1095-B forms (for tax filing) are provided directly by Anthem for SHIP-covered students; and are generally available by late January for the previous calendar year. SHIP students should contact Anthem with any questions, at 1-833-332-0798 (also on the back of your Anthem insurance card).
