Housing and Residential Education at the University of Denver fosters growth-centered communities through educational environments that prioritize connection, belonging, and the development of students and staff.

The core values of DU’s Housing & Residential Education (HRE) team inspire our commitment to building a welcoming, diverse community for students, faculty, and staff. Grounded in equitable and holistic practices, we aim to create a vibrant environment for living, learning, and collaboration. Through events, partnerships, and open dialogue, we strive for inclusive excellence by embracing the unique and shared identities, perspectives, and experiences within the DU community.

Committed to community and belonging, we promote this through education, open dialogue, and immersive experiences. By embracing the unique and shared experiences of our students and staff, we cultivate an environment where students live with others and staff work with respect for every voice and the dignity of all. We champion active engagement and understanding, achieved by: 

    • Implementing programs that honor students and promote a strong sense of belonging. 

    • Providing training for staff to cultivate skills and practices that support all students.

    HRE places students at the heart of our mission, striving to foster a collaborative and compassionate environment where students take the lead. Our goal is to provide a meaningful residential experience that enriches students’ growth and holds personal significance. Through a blend of educational and social initiatives, we introduce residents to new experiences, challenges, people, and ideas that enhance their learning beyond the classroom. We support student-led organizations tailored to their needs, empowering all residents to assume leadership roles within their communities. Additionally, we are committed to responding to students’ needs by connecting them with resources to navigate their journey, achieved by: 

    • Facilitating innovative programs that enhance student experiences. 

    • Encouraging student engagement through leadership opportunities. 

    • Offering support and resources to students during periods of challenge and reflection. 

    • Creating connections with peers and mentors to guide journeys and experiences.

    HRE is dedicated to fostering continuous learning and growth in individuals who will serve as leaders and catalysts for change, helping our residential communities reach their full potential. We are committed to providing robust training and resources that support the personal and professional development of our students and staff. We honor each individual’s unique needs, contributions, journeys, and paths. We create opportunities to build essential skills for success, in alignment with the traditions of the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) and the University of Denver, achieved by: 

    • Supporting ongoing personal and professional development through varied learning opportunities. 

    • Providing resources and programs that build essential leadership and community-building skills. 

    • Creating a culture of regular reflection and feedback to drive improvement and adapt to individual and community needs.
