DU Housing Application FAQs

  • How does HRE assign rooms?

When you complete your housing application, you create a housing profile that allows you to search for and select a roommate and share your preferences for an ideal living scenario.

You must then complete a survey that asks you to share your attitudes about cleanliness, noise preferences, sleep habits, daily routines, thoughts on guests spending the night, and feelings about sharing items within the room. HRE then attempts to match you with a compatible roommate based on your responses.

Although we do our best to make compatible matches, not every match is perfect! In these cases, you can complete a room change request beginning the third week of the fall quarter for any reason. HRE approves room changes based on the availability of the desired room change and a first-come, first-serve basis. You can move to another open space on your floor, building, or in a different building.

  • How do I check my housing assignment?

Since housing assignment notifications are official University communication, we send them to your email address. You can also view your housing assignment on your Housing Portal by following these steps:

    1. Log into the Housing Portal.
    2. Click “Application.”
    3. Click the Corresponding Academic Year.
    4. Save and Continue.
    5. Click “Application Status” (in the upper right corner).

Find your housing assignment and the profile of your roommate (if applicable) at the bottom of the screen.

  • When will I know my housing assignment?

It's important to mention that housing assignments for incoming first-year and transfer students beginning in the fall semester are not available on the Housing Portal until the end of July. Continuing & graduate students participate in our Room Selection Process by selecting their housing assignment for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Please expect to have a roommate upon your arrival in September! We encourage students to contact their roommates before their arrival on campus to get acquainted and discuss the details of setting up their rooms.

  • How can I request a housing accommodation?

Students can request housing accommodation for a disability or medical condition through the Disability Services Program (DSP). First-year or transfer students must submit their request by June XX, 2024, and continuing students must submit their request by March XX, 2024.
