  • Students accepting SHIP in fall will automatically renew for spring coverage if they maintain DU enrollment; no action is needed.
  • SHIP is contracted for full coverage term; students cannot opt-out or receive partial refunds mid-term. For example, quarter students who graduate in June cannot opt-out of summer coverage.
  • However, eligible students beginning their DU enrollment during a coverage term (eg in winter quarter or in summer quarter/semester) can contact the HCC for manual mid-term enrollment options.
  • To use SHIP benefits, students will need to create an account with Anthem (the SHIP carrier).
  • For details on eligibility, coverage and more, visit our SHIP pages, including the SHIP waiver request.
  • Students graduating, taking approved leaves of absence, or otherwise not enrolling in future terms should review our Leaving DU page for coverage and care impact.

Health & Counseling Fee (HCF)

Current year costs are $250/quarter or $375/semester, automatically assessed (billed) to eligible students based on their enrollment in any given academic term.

For more information about HCF benefits and any applicable options, on our HCF page.

NOTE:

  • Undergraduate students cannot waive the HCF.
  • Graduate students who began their current DU program before Fall 2024 can waive the HCF via the MyDU online portal, by the SHIP deadlines posted above. In this case, you are responsible for the full, out-of-pocket costs for clinical care received by/through the HCC.
  • Graduate students who began their current DU program in or after Fall 2024 cannot waive the HCF entirely, but can opt-down to a Counseling-only Fee for $225/quarter or $338/semester. In this case, you will be responsible for full out-of-pocket costs for HCC medical (and psychiatry) services including appointment copays, tests, medications, supplies.
  • Summer HCF is also available to this year's May/June graduates and continuing students even if not taking classes (because SHIP coverage includes summer), and is the quarter rate above for all students (including Law). Contact the HCC for more information and/or to sign up if not automatically assessed based on summer course enrollment.
  • Enrolled students not registered for enough credits to be automatically assessed in a given academic term may be able to opt-in to the full HCF; contact the HCC for more information.

Service Fees

For a selection of current, common fees for appointment co-pays, medical tests, injections, supplies, and more, visit our Service Fees page

Unlike all-student SHIP and HCF assessments, charges for individual services by/through the HCC are payable directly to the HCC. Visit our Payments page for information about how to pay, view receipts, etc.

For additional information, visit the linked pages above, or contact the HCC at hccinfo@du.edu or by calling 303.871.2205.
