Service Fees

Most students enrolled at the University of Denver can use the services offered by the Health & Counseling Center (HCC). (DU students in completely/largely online and/or non-degree-seeking (eg certificate) programs, and benefited employees using tuition waiver, are not eligible to enroll in SHIP or to receive clinical services at the HCC.)

As the HCC begins accepting external insurance plans from the 2026-27 school year, the direct costs to students will vary based on the nature of your visit, services provided, the specifics of your insurance plan, and your annual usage (eg deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums).

The tables and PDF files below include these types of charges, with details based on how you are paying:

  • The Full Rate is the standard HCC charge for the particular service. Any reduced rates are calculated from this amount.
  • The Self Pay amount is a reduced rate for students paying HCC directly, without billing to their insurance. (These amounts and payments would not count toward insurance annual accumulations, such as deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums. This service and charges will still appear in student’s DU myHealth record.)
  • Students on the DU Student Health Insurance Plan and other HCC-accepted insurance plans are charged the rate contracted with their specific plan and based on their annual usage.
  • Students on plans the HCC does NOT yet accept can pay the Self-Pay rate themselves, and then submit their HCC receipt to their plans for possible reimbursement, possibly counting toward their annual accumulations. (DU/HCC is not involved.)
    • Please again note that Kaiser Permanent student plans, Medicaid, and Tri-Care plans may not reimburse for care at the HCC, as they generally require members to use in-plan providers. Please check with your plan (website or phone number on back of member card) for details.

Charges are based on the type(s) of service(s) provided during a visit, indicated by one or more American Medical Association Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) code, and may be in addition to the overall visit copay. Items below are grouped by general service type, with CPT codes listed to aid in clarity, and as reference for insurance billing/reimbursement.

Payment is expected at the time of service (end of the appointment). Students may also receive an invoice for services that were not billed at the visit (such as laboratory tests). Again, final costs to students may also depend on your usage and plan’s annual deductible and out-of-pocket maximums.

If you have questions regarding fees or insurance coverage, contact the HCC at 303-871-2205 or hccinfo@du.edu

Changes for the new school year take effect August 1st for Law/semester students, and September 1st for quarter students.
