Student Affairs at DU

As DU’s central student-facing division, Student Affairs empowers every student to fully engage in campus life. Grounded in the 4D Experience, we support students in discovering their path, pursuing their passions, and making a meaningful impact in their communities. Through intentional resources, guidance, and experiences, Student Affairs equips students to navigate their journey and thrive at DU and beyond.

The DU 4D Experience

Through DU’s 4D Experience, we help students grow across the four dimensions of intellect, character, well-being, and purpose. With the help of mentors who understand your goals, reflection that connects the dots across your learning, and impactful experiences spanning the Denver campus, Kennedy Mountain Campus, and the world, you gain the knowledge, mindsets, and skills not only to power your own success but also to contribute positively to your communities. You will graduate with the building blocks for a career and life of purpose and impact.

Friday Night Lights

Hockey Night Lights

A beloved tradition since 2001 where students camp out for a chance to win "golden tickets" to all home hockey games. It includes lawn games, live music, free food, and an open skate. Be aware that it is "always freezing cold," per DUPB, however, "it's a core memory as an undergraduate experience and brings fans together."

Homecoming

A week-long celebration for current students and alumni, featuring events like Sundaes on Wednesday, the Multi-Cultural Block Party, the DU Duck Hunt (a campus wide hunt for rubber ducks for prize), DU Palooza (live music, food trucks, basically a carnival), and HocktoberFEST (a pre-game festival for the community before the Pioneers take the ice).

Dia de los Muertos painting activity

Día de los Muertos

A November celebration hosted by the Cultural Center, featuring sugar skull painting and performances. Other campus groups including the Multicultural Greek Council collaborate to create a community "ofrenda" (offering) providing space to honor loved ones, ancestors, and role models.

Winter Carnival

A cherished February tradition featuring a week of on-campus winter events, culminating in a weekend trip to Winter Park Resort for skiing, snowboarding, and tubing.

Battle of the Bands

An annual March showcase of student talent where the winning band gets the opportunity to open for a nationally recognized artist at MusicFest. "Battle of the Bands helps create a culture that celebrates live music and artists on campus," says a DUPB member.

May Days festival games

May Days

DU's longest-running tradition (since 1913), featuring a week of outdoor activities and entertainment at the end of spring quarter before finals.

Battle of the Bands

MusicFest

The final event in the May Days lineup. A concert hosted by DUPB featuring a nationally recognized artist, held at Denver's Levitt Pavilion. The opener is selected through Battle of the Bands.
