Can I see someone for mental health support today?
Our office is open for no-cost, same-day consultations on weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 1 and 3 p.m. Stop by the RItchie Center location (north end, 3rd floor) to meet with a counselor for a brief (15-20 minute) consultation. These consultations allow students to learn more about our services and treatment options (longer term), or for an initial triage in the event of an urgent mental health issue. Students are seen on a first-come, first-served basis during this time.

What free mental health offerings are there on campus?
In addition to traditional, individual counseling, the Health & Counseling Center hosts regular FREE group therapy sessions for students facing similar circumstances or working toward similar goals, as well as workshops in which our staff counselors provide help with mental health issues to various groups around campus.
Our office is also open for no-cost, same-day appointments on weekdays (Monday through Friday) between 1 and 3 p.m. Stop by the RItchie Center location (north end, 3rd floor) to meet with a counselor for a brief 15–20-minute consultation.

How much does it cost to see a counselor?
The ongoing cost to see a counselor depends on if you have paid the Health and Counseling Fee (HCF) and if you are enrolled in the Student Health insurance Plan (SHIP). If you have both the HCF and SHIP, most HCC services do not require an out-of-pocket cost or copay. For example, if you have paid both then you can get up to 20 counseling sessions free of cost.
For students not on SHIP, there is an out-of-pocket cost, though you may be able to request a reimbursement from your non-DU insurance provider.
Please see the Service Fees page for more information on fees for specific services.
