FIRST@DU
FIRST@DU is a unit within Student Affairs designed to support and celebrate first-generation college students. As a part of Student Inclusion and Belonging, we often partner with the Cultural Center. Our work makes an impact the DU community in the following areas:
First-Gen College Access
In collaboration with DU's Enrollment Management Division, our College Access team provides college access resources and support for high school students in the Denver Metro area. We also offer a pre-collegiate program that culminates in Summer Link, an opportunity for HS Juniors and Seniors to live and study on campus.
FIRST@DU Cohort Programs
The Cohort Programs team creates cohort-based programs to foster community and support through pre-orientation, peer-to-peer mentoring, and affinity floor housing opportunities. We currently host three cohort programs: Davis New Mexico Scholars, VIP Scholars, and 1GENU Scholars
First-Gen Student Experience
The First-Gen Experience team enhances the overall experience of first-generation students through enrichment funds, drop-in mentoring, signature events, college success programs, facilitated study sessions, and milestone celebrations
Scholarship Support
The Scholarship Support team serves as the liaison with and offers support and services to scholars from the Volunteers in Partnership (VIP) program, the Davis New Mexico Scholarship, the Denver Scholarship Foundation (DSF), and the Daniels Fund.
First-Gen Family Engagement
The Family Engagement team engages families of first-generation students through programs, resources, and events.
DACA and Undocumented Student Support Services
The DACA Undocumented Services team provides specialized coaching and support for DACA and undocumented students attending DU.
