Social Justice Peer Educators
The Social Justice Peer Educator program was launched in the 2023-2024 academic year. Established as a sibling program alongside the Thrive Peer Educators, SJPEs are trained to deliver DEIJ content to their peers, and serve as liaisons between SJE and the student body.
SJPEs facilitate trainings for student groups, engage with students at resource fairs and other fun events, help conceptualize and compile research for new workshops, design online and print resources such as our growing library of zines, and overall advocate for social justice and minoritized communities in institutional spaces.
The team has grown from 1 graduate and 2 undergraduate SJPEs in 2023-2024, to 2 graduates and 3 undergraduates in 2024-2025. The 2025-2026 team consists of 2 graduates and 2 undergraduates. You can learn more about our amazing peer educators, past and present, on our About Us page.
SJPEs are hired in the Spring quarter before the academic year their roles officially begin.
The application typically opens on PCO before Spring Break and closes a few weeks before commencement, with hiring decisions going out at the end of the quarter.
The application is open to ALL undergraduate students who will be Juniors or Seniors in the year their roles begin, and ALL graduate students. You can access the most recent job posting here (now closed for 2025-2026 cycle). SJPEs typically work 8 hours per week, $19 per hour for undergraduates and $20 for graduates.
SJPEs complete 20 hours of virtual training in August, including synchronous and asynchronous learning. They are trained on the core concepts and theory of social justice (e.g. identity, culture, oppression), and pedagogy and facilitation strategies including dealing with resistance and the importance of self-care.
The Social Justice Peer Educator program has become the heart of the work we do here at Social Justice Education! Since the program’s launch and inception, SJE’s approach has become more student-focused and strives to be responsive to the ever-changing, diverse needs of our student body.
